2020 Special Olympics Canada Male Athlete of the year.

Congratulations to Mathew Williams from Langley, B.C. on being named with this honor.  Mathew is such a great person that shows perseverance and dedication of a Champion. It’s such a honor to have Mathew on the NitroGolf Team. Mathew is looking forward to competing not only in the winter Olympics in Speed Skating but also in the Summer Olympics in Golf. August 2020 – Congratulation to George Thirkill from Langley B.C. and Kiefer Jones from Calgary, Alberta for there excellent performance in winning their Division classes in the North American Blind Golf Virtual Cloud Tournament held at their respective golf course. George won medals in his Senior 80+ B3 division and Kiefer won the Over-All Tournament with a score of 72-69…Amazing golfers…So nice to have them on the NitroGolf Team.

Congratulations Nitro!

There are so many great stories in golf right now, but this one is extra special. The news clip above features extraordinary students of long time CGTF Member Jason “Nitro” Rite in BC. He is still working hard to service his niche clientele despite a major accident last fall. It is awesome to see the possibilities sharing the game can overcome when the passion is there. Nitro as appropriately nicknamed joined us for our Western Cup a couple weeks ago despite his own lingering physical challenges from his fall. His energy and enthusiasm for our get together was very apparent and being unable to play did not stop him from promptly volunteering to be the official photographer. The CGTF is proud to have wonderful ambassadors of the game from coast to coast and wish Nitro a full recovery so he too can enjoy playing the game.

Spring Western Cup 2019 – Pagoda Ridge

After snowy weather February 2018, this 2019 golf day was a treat! Unfortunately the change in scheduling at Augusta did not allow us to see much of the Masters but just the same we had a great time!

There were some solid scores and a few great skins to make the day that more memorable. It is always rewarding to network with our golf peers. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us.

2015 LITTLE MASTERS – 48th Annual

The Jr.Linkster Tour 2015 LITTLE MASTERS was a great success. Held on
August 10th to 13th at 4 local Golf course…. Newlands – Langley Golf
Centre – Sunshine Hills – Kings Links. The event brought over 80 golfers
from ages 5 to 15 years old to the Masters. The event is a test of skill and
also having fun for all the golfers. This year’s Overall Champion and
Little Masters Title holder was Markus Yiu from Vancouver and the Ladies
Overall Champion was Michelle LIU from Richmond. The Jr. Linkster Tour puts
on golf tournaments for the young, up and coming golfers and everyone is
welcome to compete. The final day of competition after the cut was made had
approximately 40 golfers testing their skills with some up and coming future
professional golfers. In the 7-8yr group Lucas Ly from Langley was a stand
out as was Markus Yiu in the 11-12 yrs. group just returning from finishing
their debut last month at the Worlds Junior VERITAS Cup in Flagstaff,
Arizona. Our Canadian team did wonderful placing 4th overall with over 20
teams competing and we were all proud of them.

2015 WORLD BLIND GOLF MATCHES

On June 22^nd to 25^th 2015  I had the pleasure of attending the 2015 World Blind Golf Match Play Championships in Milan, Italy  put on by the International ISPS HANDA Blind golf Association with 12 of the top blind golfers from North America, who were competing against 12 of the top golfers from the Rest of the World. The Championship was held at the famous  “ Circolo Golf Villa D’este “ in the Como area of Milan, Italy. What a beautiful layout and scenery was magnificent. The Italian organizers, staff and volunteers were just wonderful and looked after everyone. The Competition was in all the 3  Vision Imparied categories in B1,B2, & B3.  We had two B3 golfers from British Columbia. George Thirkill from Langley,B.C.  and Darren Douma from Creston, B.C.  The competition format were the same rules as the Ryder Cup format with 2 days of Team matches and the Last day of Individual matches. The Team Matches were fairly close for two days and on the third day in the individual matches the Rest of the World jumped ahead even though our closer George Thirkill won 3/2 to close off the tournament.  What a wonderful experience for everyone that attended and look forward to the rematch in 4 years.  If you know of anyone that is blind and interested in playing and learning golf, have them contact nitrogolf.
